It’s blue but not sad, the Enchated River. Found in the town of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, in the southern part of the Philippines, the Enchanted River is a deep spring river with complex underground/underwater cave systems. We’ve heard the mapping of the cave system is yet to be completed and one diver has already gave his life for this effort. We’ve also heard that swimming is currently not allowed on the Enchanted River‘s mouth. According to Jan Gomez Villanueva (photo from her; check her Instagram account, @jan_gv, for more photos) — “Bad news: Di kami nakalangoy. Bawal muna! Good news: Restoration/renovation ang dahilan. River to Infinity (Farm) and Beyond: Photo of the Day
A river, in our book, is a very sensive, more vulnerable, body of water. Unlike the ocean which simply takes in whatever is thrown its way, a river, in order to remain a living river, must maintain a certain degree of color transparency and taste neutrality. Pour contaminants into a river and you can immediately taste the change in the river’s water. Because river water should be clear, impurities can easily be observed. A healthy river is usually surrounded by relatively uspoiled nature — green trees, fresh air. These are only some of the reasons why we’re ecstatic every time we find a living river. We recently found one in Infinity Farm, located in Oriental Mindoro, courtesy of Jessica Dianne Aranas, an architect in the making (check her Instagram account, @jadeyjadeeee for other photos). Photo of the Day: Papaya River, Mt. Mariveles
In this modern day focused on steel and concrete monstrosities called cities, it’s refreshing to see living, breathing rivers. It may be hard to believe that one can drink fresh water direct from an actual river but we’ve stumbled into one such river — in instagram. This river, with a photo posted by arjaysalvani (he says he just “shoots wherever, whatever, whenever”), goes by a strange name — Papaya River. At first we thought he’s pulling our leg when he labelled it the Papaya River, a river which turned out to be a part of a mountaineering adventure in Mt. Mariveles (Bataan). Photo of the Day: Whitewater Rafting
The first time is usually the most memorable, right? So, when we saw the expression of Debbie Grace Andres (utopiansky, and company) in her first encounter with the white sparkles of Cagayan River, we can’t help but feature the cool photo, even if we have our own whitewater rafting photos in Cagayan de Oro City. There’s truly something extra special with a group picture. Consider utopiansky‘s photo (click to enlarge) — one crew is mightily trying to steer the raft, the rest of the members are seriously trying to paddle, but there’s one member (left side) RAISING her paddle and there’s another one (middle of raft) WITHOUT a paddle (and is he holding a camera or eating something?). Shooting the Rapids in Pagsanjan Falls (Laguna)
We were impressed by the expertise of the Cagayan de Oro white water rafting crew as they safely guided the raft through the angry rapids. The Butanding Interaction Officers in Donsol swam smoothly and ably assisted guests in safely interacting with the butanding (whale sharks). They are well-trained and experts in what they do, and if you add back-breaking work to that, you’ll be referring to the boatmen of Pagsanjan Falls. White Water Rafting at Cagayan de Oro
This post has gone through a number of revisions, a useless piece of information unless someone actually reads this. In a sense this is good, as nobody would notice the typos and grammatical errors in the first few drafts. No two versions were the same after the first few days of posting, though from this obvious difficulty a memorable quote came to light: “You cannot step into the same river twice.” You may not know that this is a quote from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. You may not know its meaning. And if you’re still trying to figure out its relevance, here goes: “No two runs are the same at the CDO whitewater rafting.”
