I never previously imagined sharing travel experiences, such as in this blog, specially in places where there’s a home to go to. Having spent years in Cebu and having a home in this city, it always feels weird to stay some place else, like in Tambuli beach club, which is located in Mactan Island, just a few minutes from Cebu City.
Because Tambuli is in Mactan island, you’re guaranteed fresh seafood. You enjoy eat-all-you-can buffet, while watching a great performance of folk dances. While the beach is not really as spectacular like Boracay or Bohol, the water is clean for water activities like zooming in a jet ski. If you’re tired of seawater, you could choose among the freshwater pools. And because it’s somewhere secluded, you could enjoy your privacy. Read more about Tambuli Beach Club through its website. Really enjoyed article regarding Cebu’s newest tourist sites. I’ve got a story to tell you. A female friend of mine were chatting online just last Sunday. She was updating me on things Cebu. Anyway, as the chat unfolded, she mentioned to me that one of her jobs was to give seminars to local and foreign expats who live and work there. Anyway, to cut the story short, she said that a good number of German nationals livng there were being paid “Hazard Pay” —I asked, what do you mean? She replied that these foreign expats told their main office in Germany that they were living in conditions unfit for human habitation, or something to that effect,
One day, the German VP of a huge telecoms giant (no need to advertise) came to Cebu to see for himself the working and living conditions of his compatriots or subordinates. To his horror, and embarrassment, he couldn’t believe that Cebu wasn’t a third world city after all. He fumed and said : “This is not third world, this is PARADISE! When then returned to the office after a tour of the swank establishments, places, posh resorts, he gave instructions to WITHDRAW the “Hazard Pay” given to those German workers.
This, Fred, is how we are perceived. Many a time, those foreigners, when they see that there are toooo many wonderful and state-of-the art facilities that our dear country has to offer, they end up with egg on their faces.
Of course the VP was shocked but my childhood female friend gave her a sweet smile and planned another schedule to see more of Cebu sites. There are more stories but that’s for another day. Mabuhay!
Haha! That’s hilarious, Hill. Now there’s an alternative explanation why some would want to label our country as “unfit for human habitation” — hazard pay. Surely, there’s a lot of stories that picture the Philippines in a negative light. On the other hand, there are many positive stories that warm our hearts, like the one you related. Hopefully many more of those stories will reach the surface for everyone to read. (I was about to type “Mabuhay”, I guess your habit of placing that after each comment rubs on everyone =)
