The Famous Delicacy in your Place

What’s the most well-known delicacy in your town? Do you know what delicacy is associated with a certain place? Here’s your chance to tell us what food is made famous by your locality.

Some places are known for certain attractions. Whitewater rafting in Cagayan de Oro, the Ruins in Corregidor, the butandings in Donsol, the old Spanish Houses along Crisologo Street in Vigan, to name a few, so it doesn’t make sense for certain local governments to promote something that is already identified with other places.

In the same way, some places are known for certain delicacies. We’ve talked about binagol in Leyte, bagnet of Ilocos, bulalo in Tagaytay and Batangas, pastel from Camiguin and toasted peanut from Iligan (though the last two are made known through Cagayan de Oro). Just head over to the “food” category for more.

A delicacy in itself could become a tourist attraction. When in the South of Metro Manila, I make it a point to pass through Tagaytay for the buko pie. We would drive all the way to Pampanga for the Razon’s halo-halo. These are sold in Metro Manila outlets, I know, but the idea of buying a particular locality’s delicacy outside of that place is simply unacceptable to my traveler’s soul. It feels wrong, akin to cheating. And it’s strictly no longer a delicacy, defined as “something pleasing to eat that is considered rare or luxurious”.

It’s like this — when we go to your place, we feel we haven’t been there unless we’ve bought and tried its delicacy. Good for your tourism income. Good for our tummy.

Of course, we cannot possibly do justice to all delicacies. We will fail to enumerate everything. So here’s where your expertise comes in: tell us what delicacy is known in your place or what delicacies you seek in other places.

Next time we visit your place, we know what to look for. Please use the comment section below.
