The Lapu-Lapu statue or monument is found at the water’s edge of the Mactan Shrine. The marker at the Mactan Shrine proudly proclaims that “Lapulapu became the first Filipino to have repelled European aggression”. On 27 April 1521, Lapu-Lapu and his men fought the force of Ferdinand Magellan.

Lapu-Lapu is depicted in the statue with his sword and shield, looking towards the sea, as if scanning the horizon for the enemy. He stands firm, ready to defend his people from the invaders.
